Il Giesel è un affluente sinistro lungo circa 10 km del Fulda, che nasce nella località di Giesel a 409 m s.l.m. Il suo corso principale, chiamato anche Gresel, drena, insieme al suo affluente sinistro Saurode e al suo affluente destro anch'esso chiamato Giesel, circa la metà orientale della Foresta di Giesel, una grande area boschiva continua di 4.259,6 ha a est del Vogelsberg Inferiore e a ovest della depressione di Fulda. Sfocia a nord del quartiere di Bronnzell di Fulda, a nord e non lontano dal ponte di arenaria Kohlhäuser Brücke, lungo 215 m e a più di 10 archi, presso Kohlhaus nel Fulda. Il profilo altimetrico del Giesel presenta una differenza di altezza di 156 m dalla sorgente alla foce nel Fulda.
