Il teschio nella parte meridionale della catena montuosa della Haardt, a est della Foresta del Palatinato in Renania-Palatinato, è un valico montano situato a un'altitudine di 513,7 m s.l.m., attraverso il quale da ovest a est passa la strada Totenkopfstraße, e sulla cui sommità si trova la capanna Totenkopf.
Il valico montano si trova nel comune forestale di Maikammer tra il Rotsohlberg a sud-sud-est e l'Oberscheid a nord-est. A 2,5 km a est si erge la Kalmit, alta 672,6 m, la montagna più alta della Haardt e dell'intera foresta del Palatinato.
