La Valle dell'Ilse è una valle selvaggia e romantica a sud-ovest di Ilsenburg. L'Ilse nasce nei pressi della vetta del Brocken a quasi 1000 metri e scorre attraverso un bizzarro paesaggio roccioso verso nord. Il modo in cui il sentiero segue il piccolo fiume di montagna è uno dei percorsi escursionistici più pittoreschi e variegati delle montagne dell'Harz. Prende il nome dal famoso poeta Heinrich Heine, che una volta camminò lungo l'Ilse dalla montagna Brocken a Ilsenburg.
