La miniera Maria fu una compagnia mineraria di carbone fondata nel 1848 dal maestro del monte Eduard Honigmann, dal giudice di pace Friedrich Boelling e dall'industriale tessile Leopold Schoeller nel territorio di Hoengen. Il nome fu dato in onore della moglie del primo direttore operativo Eduard Honigmann. La miniera fu rinominata nel 1863 come Aachen-Höngener Bergwerk-Aktiengesellschaft, inizialmente affittata dalla Società di unione per il minerario di carbone nella regione di Wurm dal 1878 e acquistata nel 1890, oltre ad essere gestita a partire dal 1907 dalla fusione con il Eschweiler Bergwerksverein.
