Il distretto della contea di Schaumburg, con sede a Rinteln, è stato fino al 1977 un distretto della Bassa Sassonia. È stato istituito il 1° gennaio 1822 come circondario di Schaumburg nel Granducato d'Assia, è passato nel 1866 come circondario di Rinteln alla provincia prussiana di Hessen-Nassau e ha ricevuto nel 1905 il nome di contea di Schaumburg. Dal 1932 apparteneva alla provincia prussiana di Hannover e dal 1946 alla Bassa Sassonia. Il suo territorio deriva dalla parte kurassiana della contea di Schaumburg e oggi appartiene, ad eccezione della città di Hessisch Oldendorf, che fa parte del distretto di Hameln-Pyrmont, al distretto di Schaumburg.
