La sua sorgente si trova presso il Steinbeck a Revenahe. Da lì scorre verso nord e riceve da destra il canale principale di Apenser. A sinistra sfocia il Griemsbach, che raccoglie le sue acque nella riserva naturale di Braken e Harslah e scorre accanto a Griemshorst.
Sulla sponda sinistra del Steinbeck si trova Weißenfelde e sulla destra Ruschwedel. Le due linee ferroviarie Bremerhaven–Buxtehude e Harsefeld–Buchholz attraversano il torrente. Presso Ruschwedel il Steinbeck continua verso nord-ovest e sfiora Rutenbeck. Il torrente attraversa la foresta di Steinbeck e sfocia a nord-est di Harsefeld nell'Aue.
