Il villaggio di Surbourg è conosciuto come la terza tappa dell'itinerario romanico alsaziano. L'antica collegiata di Saint-Arbogast risale alla prima metà dell'XI secolo (primo romanico alsaziano). Fu costruita sul sito della più antica abbazia dell'Alsazia.
Dal 1550 Surbourg ospitava una grande comunità ebraica, oggi scomparsa. Sebbene la sinagoga sia stata distrutta, una traccia della sua esistenza è ancora visibile in una casa del 1724, al numero 4 di rue du Général-Leclerc. Sono visibili iscrizioni in ebraico.
Per raggiungere il villaggio, si può prendere la linea Strasburgo ? Haguenau fino a Wissembourg e scendere alla stazione di Hoelschloch-Surbourg.
