La Spezia è un comune italiano di 92 189 abitanti, capoluogo della provincia omonima in Liguria. È il secondo comune della regione per popolazione dopo Genova.
La città si trova all'estremo levante della regione Liguria, a pochi chilometri dal confine con la Toscana, al centro di un profondo golfo naturale al quale dà il nome. Il golfo, che è conosciuto anche con l'appellativo di Golfo dei Poeti per la sua bellezza, è cinto da una continua catena di alture le cui cime più elevate, il Monte Verrugoli , il Monte Parodi ed il Monte Santa Croce , il Monte Viseggi situate sul versante occidentale del centro abitato, sovrastano la città della Spezia.
