Il Fucino è una vasta conca appenninica della Marsica, in provincia dell'Aquila, in Abruzzo, posta tra i 650 e i 680 m s.l.m. e circondata dai rilievi montuosi del Sirente-Velino a nord-nordest, del monte Salviano a ovest, della Vallelonga a sud e della valle del Giovenco a est-sudest.
Ha contenuto l'omonimo lago, terzo in Italia per estensione, fino al totale prosciugamento avvenuto nella seconda metà dell'Ottocento ad opera di Alessandro Torlonia che ampliò e riutilizzò le preesistenti opere di ingegneria idraulica come il canale collettore, l'incile, l'emissario e i cunicoli di Claudio, risalenti all'epoca romana.
