Il Capo Nord si trova sul lato nord dell'Emmapolder, al confine del comune di Het Hogeland nella provincia di Groningen. L'ultimo tratto verso il Capo Nord è raggiungibile solo a piedi o in bicicletta.
Per segnare il luogo e attrarre più turisti, l'allora comune di Eemsmond fece installare nel 2002 l'opera d'arte 'La Porta del Cielo' o 'Porta Capo Nord' dall'artista René de Boer. Il nome 'Capo Nord' è stato inventato contemporaneamente all'installazione dell'opera. Il luogo stesso non è riconoscibile come 'punto estremo', poiché la diga marittima presenta una leggera curvatura nel tracciato.
