Il Winschoterdiep, un tempo chiamato Stadsdiep, Heerendiep, Trekdiep o Schuitendiep, è il canale che va da Groningen, dall'intersezione con il canale Eemskanaal, a Winschoten dove si divide in Rensel, l'ultimo tratto verso Winschoten, e l'intersezione con il Pekel A. Il Winschoterdiep rappresenta il proseguimento dello Schuitendiep che fu scavato intorno al 1400 da Groningen a Foxhol. Il nome Winschoterdiep divenne popolare solo intorno al 1840.
