Il Ceresdorp si trova tra Stadskanaal e Musselkanaal in una curva del canale. Nel 2020 il villaggio contava 920 abitanti. Il villaggio è dedicato alla dea dell'agricoltura: Cerere. Il Ceresdorp è nato come quartiere operaio quando Stadskanaal ha attraversato un rapido sviluppo dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Vicino al villaggio sorgeva un grande complesso industriale della Philips. La Philips si stabilì qui nel 1955 con una fabbrica di tubi catodici e successivamente una fabbrica di semiconduttori. Al suo apice, oltre 3.000 persone vi lavoravano. Il 18 maggio 2004 l'azienda decise di chiudere definitivamente lo stabilimento di Stadskanaal entro la fine del 2005.
