Il Sindaco di Amsterdam guarda dalla sua camera di lavoro sulla Zwanenburgwal. Qui abitavano sia il pittore Rembrandt (all'angolo di Jodenbreestraat) che il pittore Salomon Meijer e Karel Appel. Durante la sua giovinezza, aveva un atelier al numero 42, dove ospitava ragazzi ebrei durante la guerra.
La Zwanenburgwal si trovava nel cuore del quartiere ebraico. All'angolo con l'Amstel si può vedere il monumento per la resistenza ebraica.
Altri noti figli di questo molo sono l'architetto Michiel de Klerk e il leader comunista Paul de Groot.
