Il volo LOT Polish Airlines 7 era un volo passeggeri internazionale di linea tra New York e Varsavia. Il 14 marzo 1980, il volo, operato da un Ilyushin Il-62, si schiantò vicino all'aeroporto di Varsavia-Chopin a Varsavia, in Polonia, quando l'equipaggio abortì un atterraggio e tentò una riattaccata. Tutti gli 87 occupanti tra membri dell'equipaggio e passeggeri persero la vita. La causa fu la disintegrazione di uno dei dischi della turbina in uno dei motori dell'aereo, che aveva portato a un guasto non contenuto al motore. Successivamente si scoprì che il disco della turbina presentava dei difetti di fabbricazione.
