La chiesa della Misericordia fu costruita nel XVI secolo, probabilmente a partire dal 1560 al 1562. Subì diversi restauri fino a raggiungere la forma che vediamo oggi.
La facciata principale, in stile rinascimentale-fiorentino, risale al 1562. Sulla facciata laterale, sopra il portale, si trova una replica del Gruppo scultoreo primitivo della Visitazione del 1660.
All'interno, spicca la monumentale pala d'altare dorata di Marceliano de Araújo , realizzata tra il 1735 e il 1740. E una tela del santo patrono di José Lopes del 1736.
