De kathedraal is een oude bisschopskerk in gotische stijl heropgebouwd na de Eerste Wereldoorlog met graven van bisschop Jansenius en van Graaf Robrecht van Bethune, de ‘Leeuw van Vlaanderen'.
Er is een mooi zijaltaar met retabel en het mirakelbeeld van Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-van-Thuyne.
De toren is 100 m hoog en is niet toegankelijk.
Het Lapidarium bevat oude resten van de Sint-Maartensproosdij. Het Kloosterpand kan bezichtigd worden aan de noordzijde van de kathedraal.
De kathedraal kan vrij bezocht worden echter niet tijdens de erediensten en niet tussen 12u en 14u.
