Geologisch tref je hier niet al te veel stenen aan in deze streek. En dat is zelf eufemistisch gesteld. Er zijn hier geen natuurstenen te vinden. Vandaar dat mijn nieuwsgierigheid gewekt was met het toponiem "Steentjesbos". Op zich komt "steen" of "kei" in heel wat Vlaamse toponiemen voor, omdat dit een indicatie geeft van gesteenten die in de ondergrond naar boven komen. Maar die heb je hier niet. Van waar zou die naam dan komen? Een infobord aan de rand van het bos geeft de uitleg:
"Het Steentjesbos ontleent haar naam aan de bospaden geplaveid met resterende stukken steen van een Gallo-Romeinse gebouwencomplex"
