In de jaren 30 van de 20ste eeuw dienen de gondlegger van de informatiewetenschap, Paul Otlet, en toparchitect Le Corbusier een plan in voor een wedstrijd om de braakliggende Antwerpse Linkeroever te ontwikkelen. Ze maakten een Antwerpse versie van hun Cité Mondiale. Het zou veel hoogbouw bevatten en het futuristisch-internationaal karakter van Antwerpen beklemtonen. In de webdstrijdjury zaten de toenmalige coryfeeën Henry Van de Velde en Victor Horta. Die vonden het maar niets en het project belandde in de vuilnisbak.
