Op 24 juni 1912 stelde pastoor Heylen aan het toenmalige gemeentebestuur de vraag tot "het aankopen van een repel grond liggende in de Molenstraat tusschen den hof van de oude onbewoonde pastorie en den hof van de nieuwgebouwde pastorie, om er een vrije meisjesschool te bouwen". Al in juli 1912 werd gestart met de bouw van de school met drie klassen en een bijhorend klooster voor de zusters, alles naar ontwerp van J. Taeymans. Het complex werd ingetekend op het kadaster in 1913.
