De oude 'Hooyvettersvoetweg 'Chemin 59', 'Sentier d'Eppeghem à Weerde' loopt onder de eerste spoorweglijn van België, die tussen Brussel en Mechelen liep. Op 5 mei 1835 reden voor het eerst op het Europese vasteland drie locomotieven uit van Brussel naar Mechelen. De locomotieven: 'Olifant', de 'Stephenson' en 'De Pijl'.
De 'Hooyvettersvoetweg' start officieel, maar is daar helemaal niet meer begaanbaar, in Eppegem, loopt over de Zenne en gaat verder via een kleine tunnel, die nu ook onbereikbaar is onder de spoorweg. Tegenwoordig volg je de Hooyvettersvoetweg vanaf de Huidevettersstraat en verder onder de stenen spoorwegtunnel, die is gelukkig nog wel bereikbaar is. Eens je aan de Zenneoever komt volg je de Zenne tot aan de Weerde Molen. Dit tracé liep oorspronkelijk ook volledig anders, maar vandaag de dag mag je de meanders van de Zenne volgen, wat zeker niet slecht is.
