Eupen is een Duitstalige stad en is de hoofdstad van de Duitstalige Gemeenschap. Ze bestaat uit een boven- en een benedenstad. De benedenstad ligt aan de Vesder. Het station van Eupen ligt in de bovenstad en is het eindpunt van een intercityverbinding met Oostende, via onder meer Brussel. In Eupen bevinden zich enkele monumenten zoals: het stadhuis in classicistische stijl, vijf kerken (Kloosterkerk, Sint-Niklaaskerk, Sint-Lambertuskapel, ...). Op het marktplein bevindt zich een patriciërshuis.
