De Karthane is een linker zijrivier van de Stepenitz in de Landkreis Prignitz. De lengte van de loop bedraagt 48 kilometer, en ze heeft zijrivieren zoals de Cederbach en een reeks kleinere beekjes en weilandgreppels. Het stroomgebied van de Karthane beslaat 436,8 km².
Het brongebied van de Karthane ligt in het gebied ten noorden van Klein Woltersdorf in de gemeente Groß Pankow, dichtbij de plaats Seefeld tussen de 128 meter hoge Butterberg en de 120 meter hoge Wahrberg.
