De bron van de Steinbeck ligt bij Revenahe. Van daaruit stroomt hij naar het noorden en neemt van rechts de Apenser hoofdsloot op. Van links mondt de Griemsbach erin, die zijn water opneemt in het natuurgebied Braken en Harslah en langs Griemshorst stroomt.
Aan de linkeroever van de Steinbeck ligt Weißenfelde en aan de rechterkant Ruschwedel. De twee spoorlijnen Bremerhaven–Buxtehude en Harsefeld–Buchholz kruisen de beek. Bij Ruschwedel gaat de Steinbeck verder naar het noordwesten en raakt Rutenbeck. De beek stroomt door het Steinbeck-bos en mondt noordwestelijk van Harsefeld uit in de Aue.
