Het geheim van zowel Montsant als Priorat zijn de 50 tot 100 jaar oude wijnstokken van grenache en carignan, twee druiven die ook in het Franse zuiden voorkomen, maar oorspronkelijk Spaans zijn (garnacha en cariñena). Het warme klimaat brengt die druiven altijd tot optimale rijpheid, terwijl de wind die je op deze hoogte voortdurend voelt voor afkoeling zorgt. Daardoor combineren de wijnen kracht en alcohol met finesse en elegantie. En zoals Carles Pastrana een pionier van Priorat was, zijn de broers Josep en Joan d'Anguera de pioniers van Montsant. Hun familiedomein bestaat al sinds 1830.
