Cadiz eert en herdenkt Blas de Lezo, een onbezongen held die in februari 1737 vanuit zijn haven vertrok om de zusterstad Cartagena de Indias te verdedigen en een rijk te redden.
Met slechts zes schepen en 2.830 man deed zijn vindingrijkheid en dapperheid Engeland, met 195 schepen en meer dan 30.000 man, de grootste nederlaag en vernedering in de geschiedenis van dat land lijden, waarbij hij de koning van Engeland verbood over die slag te spreken op straffe van de dood.
