De hoofdstad van de Haut-Doubs in de regio Franche-Comté is Pontarlier. Deze beschikt over twee troeven buiten categorie: de absintdistilleerderijen én een 8000 m² groot automuseum. Tot de drooglegging in 1915 was Pontarlier de hoofdstad van de absint, een bittere likeur gestookt op alsem die voor bijna 75 % uit alcohol bestaat. Het Musée Sbarro dankt zijn naam aan Franco Sbarro, een Italiaanse autoconstructeur en ontwerper die in zijn Ateliers de Construction Automobile (ACA) in het Zwitserse Grandson vlak bij het Neuchatelmeer reconstructies en extravagante prototypes van eigen ontwerpen creëerde.
