De Dacquois historicus De Sauviac, vermeldt het bestaan in Laluque, in de 11e eeuw, van een Romaanse kerk getiteld: Sanctus Joannès di Laluke. De primitieve kerk uit de 8e eeuw werd geplunderd door de Noormannen in de 9e eeuw en door de Saracenen in de 10e eeuw. De kerk werd opnieuw afgebrand in de 13e en 14e eeuw. Het werd onmiddellijk herbouwd. Het werd in de 19e eeuw, tussen 1854 en 1873, opnieuw uitgebreid gerestaureerd
Dit is gedeeltelijk de huidige kerk, gerestaureerd in de 19e eeuw tussen 1854 en 1873. Met onder andere zijn 11e eeuwse apsis is het van groot historisch, artistiek en cultureel belang.
In 2007 kreeg het een restauratie van de schilderijen uit 1873, vergezeld van een renovatie van de elektrische installatie, verlichting en verwarming (vloerverwarmingstapijt), en een reorganisatie van de ruimte.
