Duiventorens waren zeer populair op de Egeische eilanden en dus ook op Sifnos. Duiven werden hier gehouden voor de mest die ze produceerden. Daarnaast vormden de duiven ook nog een uitstekende bron van proteïnen of eiwitten. Daarnaast zijn de duiventorens een prachtig staaltje van Egeïsche architectuur. Jammer genoeg zijn er niet zo veel meer te zien op het eiland.
