Ten noordwetsen van Zwolle bevindt zich het gebied van de IJsseldelta. Heel typisch hier zijn de dorpen die op terpen gebouwd zijn, zodat men bij het uit de oevers treden van de IJssel droge voeten behield. Soms zijn zelfs individuele boerderijën op afzonderlijke terpen gebouwd, wat ment huisterpen noemt. De oudste terpen tref je aan op de oeverwallen van de IJssel.
