Het Braassemermeer wordt al in 1296 genoemd als "die Mere van Rinsaterwald". Het meer is 425 ha groot en is ontstaan door veenafgraving, vooral voor de winning van turf. Tegenwoordig is het een watersportrecreatiegebied waarlangs verscheidene jachthavens zijn gevestigd.
Aan de overkant is de Nederlands Hervormde Woudse Dom te Rijnsaterwoude te zien.
