Station Assen is het spoorwegstation te Assen dat op 1 mei 1870 werd geopend. Het oorspronkelijke stationsgebouw is ontworpen door de architect Karel van Brederode en werd gebouwd in 1868. Het behoorde tot een vernieuwde versie van het standaardtype SS derde klasse .
Van 1905 tot 1947 was er ook personenvervoer over de spoorlijn naar Stadskanaal. Deze lijn is in 1977 opgebroken. Bron: Wikipedia
De stationsomgeving in Assen werd geheel vernieuwd. In 2016 is ProRail met de verbouwing gestart. De werkzaamheden aan het spoor rondden we in 2017 af. In februari 2020 werd het nieuwe station Assen feestelijk geopend. ProRail bouwde een nieuw stationsgebouw, samen met NS en de gemeente Assen. Het nieuwe stationsgebouw is ruim, duurzaam en nog beter toegankelijk. Dat komt door de nieuwe liften, bredere trappen en door de nieuwe tunnel, met ingang aan de oostkant. Bron: ProRail
