Va ser un dels monestirs més rics de Guimarães, fundat al segle XVI pel canonge mestre escolar de la Col·legiata de La nostra Senyora de l'Olivera, Baltasar d'Andrade.
L'edifici té una façana barroca i una estàtua de Santa Clara al centre. El claustre de dos pisos és clàssic. La rica capella va ser buidada al segle XIX i avui part de la fusteria daurada es troba al Museu Alberto Sampaio.
Aquest edifici alberga l'Ajuntament de Guimarães .
