Stedet, hvor færgestationen ligger i Sint-Amands, kan allerede genkendes langvejsfra ved statuen 'De Veerman' af billedhugger Marc Macken (1913-1977) og henviser til det samme navnede digt af den fransksprogede flamske digter Emile Verhaeren ('Le Passeur d'eau').
Det blev givet til kommunen Sint-Amands den 27. november 1966 i anledning af 50-års dagen for Emile Verhaerens død, som blev født i Sint-Amands.
