Gevaerts Noord ist ein Naturschutzgebiet am Ufer des Kanals, im Tal der Zuidleie. Es wird von der vzw Natuurpunt verwaltet. Bis zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts wurden die Binnenschiffe mit Menschen- oder Pferdekraft durch das Wasser gezogen. Der zuvor im Kanalufer angelegte Zugweg ist an manchen Stellen vollständig erodiert, wodurch die steilen Ufer entstanden, die nun ein beliebter Brutplatz für Eisvogel und Uferschwalbe sind.
