Eines der auffälligsten Ereignisse in der belgischen Popmusik ist das Festival Actuel in Amougies im Oktober 1969. Dieses fünftägige Festival wird oft als das "europäische Woodstock" bezeichnet und brachte Jazz und Rock auf einzigartige Weise zusammen. Weltstars wie Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, Yes, Ten Years After und Captain Beefheart traten dort vor etwa 100.000 Festivalbesuchern auf. Der Standort war besonders: auf einer Wiese in der Nähe dieses wallonischen Dorfes Amougies, da das Festival in Frankreich verboten wurde. Damit wurde ein kleines Dorf plötzlich zur Kulisse der Popgeschichte mit einer globalen Ausstrahlung.
