Das winzige Spanische Tolhuis war einst das Tor zu einer festen Festung. Diese bewachte die alte Schleuse von Plassendale. Wartezimmer für spanische Soldaten; Wohnung des Kommandanten; Dolmetscherbüro; Gasthaus; Haus der Schleusenmeister; ein letzter Anlegeplatz für alte Binnenschiffer: das kleine Denkmal am Ufer hat eine Menge Geschichten zu erzählen. Heute ist es ein Halt für Radfahrer, Wanderer und Bootsfahrer, für große und kleine Abenteurer mit leichtem Hunger oder großem Durst. Vierhundert Jahre Schleusen, Festungen, Kanonenschläge, Schifffahrt, Bewohner und ihre Geschichten haben hier am Wasser einen Platz gefunden. Du kannst drinnen oder auf der großen Terrasse im Garten Platz nehmen. Es werden auch Kajaks vermietet, mit denen du den Kanal erkunden kannst.
