Das Curiosamuseum wurde von Antoon Vanneste gegründet. Es befand sich in der Peperstraat 24 in Heule und hörte auf zu existieren, als der Gründer und Kurator Antoon Vanneste am 6. November 2001 verstarb.
Der Ursprung des Curiosamuseums geht auf 1963 zurück, als Antoon beim Aufräumen des Dachbodens seines Wohnhauses in der Peperstraat einige Gegenstände aus der Herberge „Au Lion d’Or“ entdeckte, die früher im Haus untergebracht war. Antoon bestellte den „Alteisensammler“, aber dieser ließ zu lange auf sich warten, und so begann er, ein paar Stücke zu polieren und zwischen seiner Sammlung ausgestopfter Vögel zu platzieren. Das Ergebnis gefiel ihm gut, und von einem kam das andere. Nach und nach wurde Zimmer für Zimmer im Haus mit neuen Stücken gefüllt.
