Mehr als 100 Minenräumer sind seit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg bereits ums Leben gekommen. Der letzte ist der DOVO-Adjutant Johan Bosmans aus dem Meerdaal-Viertel von Oud-Heverlee, der im August 2012 bei einem Unfall ums Leben kam.
In Stavelot befindet sich das 'Monument des Demineurs'.
Das Denkmal wurde Anfang der 1950er Jahre in STAVELOT zu Ehren der bei ihrer Arbeit gefallenen Minenräumer errichtet. Sogar ein Mitglied der königlichen Familie war bei der Einweihung des Denkmals anwesend. Die Kupfertafeln auf der Rückseite des Denkmals enthalten alle Namen der bis heute gefallenen Minenräumer. Der Nachname kam 2012 hinzu.
