Von hier aus hat man einen guten Blick auf die Braunkohlegrube Hambach. Hambach (in den deutschen Gemeinden Niederzier, Düren und Elsdorf, Rhein-Erft-Kreis) ist die größte Braunkohlegrube von RWE. Die Braunkohle wird im Tagebau abgebaut. An der nordwestlichen Seite der Grube liegt der Abraumhalden Sofienhöhe, die aus Richtung Jülich gut zu sehen ist. Der tiefste Punkt Europas über dem Meeresspiegel liegt in Hambach: 293 Meter unter NHN. Dieser Punkt liegt 399 Meter unter der ursprünglichen Oberfläche.
