Der Friedhof von Ripoll wurde 1903 von dem Architekten Antoni Coll Fort entworfen. Es war ein Bruch mit der mittelalterlichen Tradition, bei der das Totenfeld zuvor innerhalb des urbanen Gefüges lag, eine Kontinuität des für die Lebenden reservierten Raums mit dem der Toten.
