La Charca ist ein geschütztes Naturgebiet, das an die ebenfalls geschützten Dünen von Maspalomas angrenzt.
Tatsächlich befindet sich dieser See fast an der Mündung eines ausgetrockneten Flusses. Zwischen dem See und dem Meer gibt es noch ein schmales Dünengebiet. Wenn der Fluss bei starkem Regen Wasser führt, gelangt dieses in den See. Bei starkem Sturm kommt Salzwasser über das Dünengebiet, wodurch das Wasser brackig ist.
Hier sind immer Wasser Vögel zu sehen, ein Fernglas ist nötig.
