Er verbindet die Ortschaften Monno im Süden und Grosio im Norden. Die Scheitelhöhe beträgt 1.852 m. Die Passstrasse ist durchgängig asphaltiert, stellenweise nur einspurig in der Fahrbahnbreite. Auf der Passhöhe befindet sich ein kleiner geschotterter Parkplatz.
Der Pass ist heute besser bekannt als Passo del Mortirolo, der eigentlich ein Nebenpass des Passo della Foppa ist. Unter dieser Bezeichnung erfolgt auch von Monno her die Beschilderung der Strecke.
