Die Piazza Papa Giovanni XIII in Pistoia ist vor allem für das Ospedale del Ceppo bekannt.
Dies ist ein altes Krankenhaus in Pistoia, das im 13. Jahrhundert gegründet wurde.
Der Legende nach leitet sich der Name von einem Baumstumpf ab, der im Winter auf wundersame Weise blühte und der laut einer Erscheinung der Jungfrau Maria den frommen Ehemännern Antimo und Bendinella den Ort wies, an dem das Krankenhaus gegründet werden sollte. Eine andere Möglichkeit ist, dass der Name vom hohlen "Stumpf" der Kastanie abgeleitet wurde, die zum Sammeln von Opfergaben verwendet wurde.
Es war das Stadtkrankenhaus bis zum 21. Juli 2013, als es durch das neue San Jacopo Hospital im südlichen Teil der Stadt ersetzt wurde.
