Neben der Schleuse steht die Statue der Wirtin Kaatje, die der Überlieferung nach ihren Kunden die leckersten Gerichte servierte, basierend auf ihren geheimen Rezeptbüchern. 1732 wurde Kaatje überfallen und starb an ihren Verletzungen. Ihre Rezeptbücher tauchten Jahre später an verschiedenen Orten rund um das IJsselmeer wieder auf, aber die Täter wurden nie gefunden. Kaatje blieb ihr ganzes Leben allein, wartend auf ihre Jugendliebe Hilbert, einen Steuermann aus der Handelsmarine. Er kam erst einige Wochen nach ihrem Tod zurück nach Blokzijl, wohlhabend, aber zu spät für Kaatje. An der Stelle ihres alten Gasthauses finden wir jetzt das renommierte Sterne-Restaurant „Kaatje bij de Sluis“.
