Aarlanderveen wird zum ersten Mal als Herrschaft im Verlobungsvertrag von Floris IV. von Holland und Machteld von Brabant erwähnt. Das Dorf gelangt im Laufe der Jahrhunderte in den Besitz verschiedener adliger Familien, darunter Van Oudshoorn und Van IJsselstein. Zu Beginn der Renaissance, 1584 oder 1593, gelangt Aarlanderveen in den Besitz von Feldmarschall Ernst von Mansveld oder von Mandelsloh.
