The current castle complex was built in 1903 by Baron Fernand de Beeckman and his wife Emilie Wittouck, whose family came into possession of it after the French Revolution. None of the medieval buildings survived from a fire around 1900.
After the death of Baroness Wittouck (1947), the domain changed hands a number of times. In the end, the non-profit organisation Healthcare ran a centre for social tourism there for forty years. Around the turn of the millennium, it was time for change again. The domain was divided among a number of new owners: Group Oostappen (camping), Twin Properties (holiday homes and hotel), vzw Gezondheidszorg (castle) and Limburgs Landschap vzw (nature management and visitor centre).
