The Town Hall of Sternberg dates back to the 19th century. It is located in the center of Sternberg right at the marketplace of the city core in close proximity to the early Gothic town church of St. Mary and St. Nicholas.
Around 1230 to 1250, Sternberg was systematically laid out with a grid-like street network in a slightly elliptical ground plan. In 1248, Prince Pribislaw I granted the settlement of Sternberg town rights. The first town hall burned down like many buildings in the great city fire of 1308.
