El nombre de esta pequeña plaza triangular está relacionado con el aprecio de Benito Mussolini por la tenaz defensa de la ciudad durante la Primera Guerra Mundial: en 1922 donó la cruz de guerra italiana y el título "Citta Heroica" a la ciudad de Diksmuide . De ahí también varios monumentos de guerra:
El monumento a los "XII Manitoba Dragons Canada" con la inscripción: "XII MANITOBA DRAGOONS CANADA FREED DIKSMUIDE DEN 7 SEPT. 1944".
El memorial en memoria de los bretones caídos. Un monumento en forma de cruz de piedra azul sobre un pedestal de piedra natural. Una placa de bronce con el texto: "LA BRETAGNE AUX GLORIEUX MORTS DU 241e RI TOMBES SUR LE SOL DE LA VAILLANT BELGIQUE EN 1940".
Un memorial de 1997 para los presos políticos de Groot Diksmuide que murió en los campos de concentración nazis (1940-1945).
4) Un memorial de 1984 a Maurice Cornet, quien murió en 1945 como preso político en Recklinghausen (Alemania). Inscripción: "QUE MI SACRIFICIO DE VIDA DA LIBERTAD PAZ Y JUSTICIA PARA TODOS POR SIEMPRE".
