Esta área también se conoce como 'Mano Azul'. Antes había una presa en el canal Beuker/Steenwijk, donde los barcos tenían que ser cargados con turba. Se descargaba la turba y se cargaba en el otro barco al otro lado de la presa. Debido a que la turba contenía mucho cobre, los trabajadores tenían las manos azules. De ahí el nombre Mano Azul. Puede encontrar una imagen de una 'mano azul' en la plataforma de azulejos cerca de la casita del puente, en el puente de la Mano Azul.
