Ribera de Arriba est une municipalité asturienne dont le nom vient du fait qu'elle est située en grande partie sur les rives de la rivière Nalón qui forme une vaste vallée. Elle est bordée au nord et à l'est par la municipalité d'Oviedo. Au sud, elle flirte avec Mieres et Morcín et à l'ouest avec Santo Adriano. Sa superficie n'est pas très grande, étant de 22 km², la capitale et Soto de Rey étant ses principaux noyaux.
